Pre-deployment

Use this checklist before you deploy into the field to conduct a systematic digital security and privacy self-audit and clean-up:

Go through your device and backup items that won’t survive a factory reset
Factory restart your cell phone
Install your VPN app and password manager
Reinstall only the essential apps you need for the deployment. Consider using websites for non-essential activities such as social media, instead of native apps
Log back into essential accounts
Grant permissions only to essential apps when requested, and use the strictest permissions. If you are not sure, decline the permission
Check your device camera has geolocation turned off, unless required for your role

Use this checklist whilst in the field to maintain good digital security and privacy practices.

Backup photos and videos to the cloud and delete from the device. Keep several generic photos (selfies etc) to not arouse suspscion by having an empty gallery

Delete any potentially sensitive photos and videos once uploaded to cloud storage
Leave ‘safe’ photos and videos on the device. Do not have an empty photo gallery
