Driver responsibilities (brief)
Ensure all drivers understand their responsibilities by reading them this brief:
- Present for work before the time communicated by the team leader
- Be accessible via mobile phone after hours
- Read and understand the plan for the day, or ask questions if you don’t understand something
- Ask questions if the destination is not understood (do not assume)
- Prepare for overnight stays in the field if required
- Ensure your vehicle is clean, full of fuel, and serviceable at the start of each day
- Do not drink alcohol or consume drugs the evening before duty, and while on duty
- Remain with your vehicle when the team is working, unless instructed otherwise
- Be prepared to depart at short notice - do not wander off
- Maintain security over any equipment left in your vehicle
- Secure your vehicle and equipment/supplies when instructed to leave it
- Ensure your vehicle is always positioned to depart the scene urgently if required - do not allow your vehicle to be blocked in
- Speak up if a team member asks you to drive somewhere you don’t believe is safe, for example, a flooded river crossing
- If you are threatened or solicited for a bribe at a checkpoint, report the incident to the team leader
- Look after your own safety and speak up if something seems unsafe
- Look after your own welfare and speak up if you are fatigued or unwell
- Take drinking water, suitable clothing and footwear, and a charged mobile phone with credit into the field, every day
- Treat patient information with the strictest confidentiality
- Do not photograph patients without permission
- Do not discuss the team’s plans or work with people outside the organisation. If someone asks you about our plans or work, direct them to the team leader.
- Do not share details about our plans or work on social media unless approved by the team leader
- Do not accept extra passengers without approval from the team leader
